Easter egg hunting should be on this Saturdays agenda for the children of Gray and Jones County. The Gray Rattlers Mens Club in conjunction with Ingles Supermarket, the Jones County Sheriffs Department, and Chevys Café, is having its third annual countywide Easter Egg Hunt April 7.
The event will start at 1 p.m. at the Sheriffs Department located on Holmes Hawkins Road in Gray with areas designated by age groups to give all children an equal chance during the games and to find eggs and treats.
The Gray Rattlers are 15 local men who decided to make a difference in their community. Jones County Deputy Boisy Hunt is the chairman of the club, and Lee Arthur James is vice chairman, Lewis Patterson is secretary, and David Tufts serves as the finance officer.
The club was formed in 2003 and has supported the community with five cookouts a year for the children in different areas of the county and serves holiday meals to the less fortunate as well as providing supplies for elementary school children each year.
These cookouts are free to the public because we feel that any community that works together is a positive place to live, Hunt said.
The name Rattlers was chosen by the group because it was the name of their former school mascot, the Maggie Califf Rattlers. The mens group raises money for its projects with events such as dances at Adams Lounge and community raffles and appears to have a good time whether they are fund raising or giving back to the community.
Our motto is taking it to the streets, and that is exactly what we do, Hunt said. Lets all get together Saturday for the biggest Easter egg hunt we have ever had.
