Soccer teams set to finish
Jones County High girls’ soccer player Sarah Simmons battles with a Stockbridge opponent for the ball in the Lady Greyhounds’ 6-0 loss to the Lady Tigers March 24 in Gray.
With two games left, the Jones County High girls’ soccer team has had to refocus after failing to qualify for the region 4-AAAA tournament. A 5-1 loss to Upson-Lee March 20, a 4-2 loss to Northside March 23, and a 6-0 loss to Stockbridge March 24 put the Lady Greyhounds out of contention to finish as one of the top four teams in sub-region 4B-AAAA and earn a spot in the April 14 region tournament. “To qualify you have to be in the top four, and looking at it now, we would have had to win all three of those games and have some help,” head coach Will Mitcham said. ...

The Jones County High boys’ tennis team has completed a key portion of its schedule without a loss and is just two matches shy of finishing the regular season with an undefeated record. With a 3-2 victory over Stockbridge March 22, the Greyhounds improved their sub-region 4B-AAAA record to 6-0 and locked up the number-one seed for the region tournament, which begins April 16 in Stockbridge. “It means a lot to be undefeated in the sub-region,” coach Lance Pittman said. “Coming in, I thought we’d be strong, but I didn’t know how we’d match up wi ...
