As Theodore Roosevelt, Joe Wiegand brings history to life for audiences young and old.
Inspired by great Americans, Joe excelled in his studies and in community service. For his leadership and academic achievements, Joe was named a Century III Leader by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Joe was elected by his peers to be American Legion Boys State Governor and American Legion Boys Nation President. TIME Magazine named Joe one of America's 100 Outstanding College Students and he was awarded a Harry S Truman Scholarship and a Thomas Watson Fellowship.
A lifelong student of American history, government and foreign policy, Joe is a political science graduate of The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and a former graduate assistant at the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.
Following T.R.'s counsel to live a vigorous life and be the man in the arena, Joe has served as an elected county commissioner, a campaign and public policy professional, a board member of various not-for-profits and senior warden at his church. Joe is a Lion, a member of Rotary International and a member of the National Association for Interpretation.
Today, Joe travels the country with his wife, Jenny, his daughter, Samantha, and their golden retriever, Faith. Their T.R. Tour celebrates Theodore Roosevelt's 150th birthday and the centennial of his final historic year as our 26th President.
"So many of T.R.'s contemporaries testify to the way he entertained audiences with inspirational and humorous stories from his youth, his ranching days, Cuba and the Presidency. I really enjoy sharing T.R.'s funny stories of life in the White House with six kids and telling anecdotes from his many adventures, from bear hunts to the Panama Canal, from Africa to the Amazon. T.R. is so big and so exciting!
