Dear Editor,

On the subject of Confluence Park, I Will start by applauding mayors Tom Hirshi and Tom Stocks for their stands. Hold fast gentlemen!

The letter to the editor from MyHurricane.Com and MyLaVerkin.Com was very enlightening, especially when I went online and viewed the slide presentation of the Confluence Park. I also have been to the area in other times and live not far from it.

The letter to the editor from Mark Tilby raised my blood pressure to an alarming level. In analyzing the reason, I realize it was because he so concisely and eloquently stated the platitudes and opinions of the "Environmentalist" mind set. YA GOTTA LOVE'EM' for their myopic tunnel vision because it provides them with a bit of unreality in a harsh old world. I wonder how often Mr. Tilby will leave his very comfortable, modern and lovely home in Hurricane to go to Confluence "Park" for solitude, soothing refreshment, renewal, and inspiration of body and mind. There to sit among the dry weeds, dead brush, imported turtles and raccoons (who are probably feasting upon wound-fin minnows) and swat mosquitoes. Hurricane, LaVerkin and Toquerville already have the kind of "park" he envisions, except they call each a cemetery.

Will some Environmentalist please tell me, in a logical way, how it is posssible or why is it reasonable to lock up a piece of landscape in it's "natural state" to preserve it for our children? My children are already here, and taxpayers in LaVerkin, Washington County, and perhaps they would like to see that property maintained in a user-friendly fashion during their lifetimes. The only reason to keep the public off a place that was purchased for their use is that someone or some group wants to Control it for their own personal gain. Could that control involve the water in Ash Creek, Laverkin Creek and the Virgin River? That is the same as stealing from your neighbor. Let those groups go buy a piece of the moon. It can be kept pristine and pure without any additional expense.

Sincerely,

Judith Iverson
