Jerry Vincent of Warner Robins will run for Post 4 on the Houston County Board of Commissioners in the Republican Primary on July 15. He will be squaring off against incumbent Commissioner Larry Thomson for the nomination.
There is no Democratic candidate for the post, so the winner in July will win the four-year term.
Vincent, 59, is a Vietnam veteran who retired from the Air Force and went to work as a civilian at Robins Air Force Base, spending 22 years working in the Museum of Aviation. He is now retired, but active in the community.
He and his wife Sherry have two adult sons, Jerry Vincent Jr. and Barry Vincent, and five grandchildren, all of whom live in Houston County. They are members of Southside Baptist Church.
The reason Im running is that I want to give back to my community through my efforts to make Houston County a place where every one will want to live and work, Vincent said.
He noted that two areas he is particularly interested in are getting civil defense alarms set up in the county, and continuing the improvement of the countys roads.
