Whatever you like to read, youre likely to find it at the Old Book Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Houston County Library.
At press time, volunteers were in the process of moving 2,000 boxes of books in three truck loads from Big Lots in Warner Robins to the Georgia Building at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, where 55,000 books will be unpacked and organized in 56 categories on 110 tables.
Its a big operation in every way but one. The prices arent big at all, with most selling from 50 cents to $3.
The big event gets under way Thursday evening at 4 p.m. with a preview sale for members only. Those who want to join the Friends for membership dues of $5 per year can do so at the door and have the opportunity to be among the first to pick their books.
The sale is open at no cost all day Friday, from 9 am. To 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Readers can buy fiction and non-fiction in all categories, both hardcover and paperback. This year there is a Romance World Section and a new genealogy collection. There is also a special section of older books which includes, among many other special selections, books by Joel Chandler Harris, Civil War books, old cookbooks, Harry Potter Books, an 1859 Bible Dictionary and decorative books from the 1890s. Anglophiles can buy a 1937 Illustrated Coronation of King George VI, and there is a leatherbound collection of Louis LAmour novels.
All proceeds go to the Houston County libraries for books, CDS, equipment and childrens programs.
The sale has been chaired this year by Pam Yates and Georgette Lipford. For more information on Friends of the Library, contact president Christine Hoskins at Christinehoskins@gmail.com.
