Four members of the Houston County Board of Education have announced their intentions to seek new four year terms.
Pamela Greenway, Tom Walmer, Dr. Charles M. (Toby) Hill, all of Warner Robins and Skip Dawkins of Perry, will all run again. Their announcements were made informally after the close of Tuesdays board meeting.
The other members, Dr. Marianne Melnick, Griff Clements and Fred Wilson are in the middle of their four year terms.
Greenway, who is chairman of the board, is a Warner Robins attorney. She represents District 5, which includes David Perdue Elementary, David Perdue Primary, Houston County High, Bonaire Elementary, Bonaire Middle, Russell Elementary, Hilltop Elementary and Miller Elementary.
In announcing her intention to seek reelection she said, I have contributed to the new attitude within the school system that there is leadership, that leadership listens to school administrators, teachers, parents and pupils.
Walmer, currently board vice-chair, represents District 1, which includes Eagle Springs Elementary, Centerville Elementary, Northside Elementary, Parkwood Elementary, Westside Elementary, Thomson Middle and Northside High. He said that The strength of the Houston County School System is a by-product of a team of board members working side-by-side with a strong superintendent and staff, leading many, many talented teachers working together for the benefit of all students in Houston County.
Hill represents all schools in an at-large post. He called serving on the BOE one of the most humbling experiences of my life, and said, I fully understand that our outstanding schools bear a direct relationship to the overall social and economic progress we are making in Houston County.
Dawkins, a long-time board member who is serving this year as President of the Georgia School Boards Association, represents District 3. His district includes Matt Arthur Elementary, Kings Chapel Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Perry Elementary, Perry Primary, Tucker Elementary, Perry Middle, Mossy Creek Middle and Perry High.
The election, which is non-partisan, will be on Nov.4. Qualifying for the positions will be from 9 a.m., June 23 to noon, June 27, at the Houston County Board of Elections
