Helping Hands Ministries, located at 119 Broadway, South Fulton, filled food baskets, as well as a void this holiday season.
Pastor Danny Walker, and members of Liberty Worship Center distributed and delivered food baskets, Dec. 11, to the community.
We gave everything we had out on Friday, within 20 minutes. With the economy situation, there are so many hurting people. Broadway was backed up. The response was overwhelming, Walker said.
Helping Hands Ministry derived from Liberty Worship Center, to help members of the community in need, less likely to come to the church, according to Walker.
The ministry plans to distribute approximately 400 baskets.
The Bible says, when I was hungry, you fed me. So we felt the need to feed the members of our community, Jim Dluzniewski, member of Liberty Worship Center said.
Volunteers began distributing the baskets earlier than planned, as a result of the overwhelming demand.
The baskets consisted of milk, peanut butter, bread, chicken nuggets, and canned items.
Monetary donations were received from St. Edwards Catholic Church in Fulton. Turner Dairies, in Fulton, donated milk, Pic Pac Grocery, Fulton, Tyson Food, in Union City, and others.
The building was donated by Jimmy Bynum, of South Fulton.
We want to invite local pastors to get involved, regardless of denomination. The need does not stop at Christmas. We need volunteers, Walker said.
The ministry will distribute more baskets Dec. 19, from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at 119 Broadway.
