Graves County scene of fatal vehicle accident

Kentucky State Police continue to investigate a vehicle accident, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old Water Valley man, Nov. 25.

Wyatt L. Gillum, was pronounced dead at the scene, by the Graves County Coroner, after the vehicle he was operating struck a tree.

According to the police report, Gillum, who was driving a 1992 Honda, was traveling westbound on KY 2422, when for an unknown reason he lost control of the vehicle, overcorrected and ran off the right side of the road, striking a tree on the driver’s side where it came to a final rest.

Other passengers in the vehicle were, Jeremy Meadows, 19, Water Valley, Gregory Caylor Jr., 19, Water Valley, and Alexis Smallwood, 16. All sustained injuries. Both Gillum and Smallwood were wearing seatbelts. Meadows and Caylor were treated at Parkway Regional Hospital, Fulton. Smallwood was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center, in Mayfield.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted by Graves County Rescue Squad, Wingo Fire Department, and Mayfield/Graves County EMS.
