Plans for the seventh annual Twin Cities Interfaith Thanksgiving Day Meal are underway.
The traditional turkey meal will be served from 12 noon-2 p.m. Nov. 26, at St. Edwards Catholic Church Parish Hall, 506 Eddings St., Fulton. Meals may be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The idea of the meal is so people with no family and others will be able to enjoy the holiday with others. There is no charge for the meal. The Twin Cities Interfaith Coalition of Churches plans to prepare enough food for approximately 500-600 dinners.
Parades and football games will be aired on the big screen television for entertainment.
Homebound deliveries, for those who have no way of getting their own meals, may be obtained by calling Gary Jez at 479-3331 and leave a message if needed, St. Edwards Catholic Church at 472-2742, or the Fulton County Senior Citizens Center at 472-2900 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. When calling, include a name, address, and phone number, as well as the number of meals needed, by Nov. 25. This information may also be given to someone from one of the churches, or anyone involved with the program.
Jez said he has seen more and more interest in the community Thanksgiving meal. It increases every year. Last year was the largest. Every year, we pick up a few more.
Jez stressed the importance of utilizing the home delivery system only if residents have no way of getting the meals themselves. We werent taken last year. Deliveries went to the people who needed them, he said.
The final meeting for the dinner will be Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. for anyone wanting to volunteer. Cooking will begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 23, 24, and 25 at St. Edwards. Turkies and dressing and other preparations will be made.
