It took only a short time Nov. 2, for the South Fulton Commission to conclude a special called meeting, concerning the well pump at the water plant, and the Community Development Block Grant.
At the request of City Manager Jeff Vowell, the commission agreed to allow him to spend just under $9,000 to repair the well pump, at the water plant. Commissioner Charles Moody had concerns regarding how long the fix would last.
According to Public Works Director Hubert Maynard, the replacement will be a rebuilt pump which is in good shape and should last a while.
The city is currently running on a back-up pump.
The City of South Fulton was awarded $500,000 in grant funds through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) this year. However, according to Vowell, paperwork is involved before the city will receive those funds.
The federal grant is based on income levels in the community. It was noted South Fulton received the largest amount of funds awarded in the region. The grant money is expected to be used for repairs on the sewer system, and according to Vowell, the city will be responsible for matching approximately $109,000 of the grant.
Vowell said he hopes to get the project going before next fall, so that once awarded, the city could re-apply by next October or November.
This is wonderful news for the town. Hopefully we can get this thing going, and get out sewer system fixed, Vowell said.
Both Mayor David Crocker and Vowell thanked those members of the community who took the time to complete the surveys earlier in the year.
