Two local men were killed, and one injured in three separate vehicle crashes July 25-26.

Robert Moss, 35, died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident July 26 on Middle Road in Fulton. Moss was traveling east on Middle Road at about 5 p.m., when Tommy Dublin, 67, turned in front of the motorcycle driven by Moss.

According to a Fulton Police report, Dublin was traveling west on Middle Road and told officers he did not see Moss, and attempted to turn left into the parking lot of Parkway Church of Christ.

Both vehicles collided and Moss was transported to Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton, then airlifted to the Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn. He was then airlifted to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn., where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m. from injuries sustained from the crash.

Graves County Sheriff’s Department determined alcohol was involved in the single vehicle accident that resulted in the death of Chris Powell, 23, of South Fulton, July 25. Powell was traveling north on U.S. Highway 45, north of Water Valley at an excessive speed, according to a witness. When at the curve, at the two mile marker, the right tires of the 1995 Mazda 626 dropped off of the road, he overcorrected and went across the southbound lane, leaving 201 feet of skid marks, and left the roadway.

His vehicle struck a tree and began to flip, coming to rest upside down across the southbound lane and partially into the northbound lane.

Powell was wearing his seatbelt, but died as a result of massive head trauma. His body was removed from the vehicle by the jaws of life.

In the vehicle was a 24 ounce can of beer among the wreckage, according to the police report. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol in the vehicle and on Powell.

Graves County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Mayfield Fire Department, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, and the Graves County Coroner’s Office.

Tim E. Smith, 43, of Martin, Tenn., was involved in a motorcycle accident early July 26 at the intersection of Tyson Drive and Section Line Road in Union City, Tenn.

According to a Union City Police report, Smith was traveling west on Tyson Drive and approached the intersection at Section Line Road before he realized it, and laid his Harley Davidson motorcycle over. The motorcycle slid about 24 feet across Section Line Road, and eight feet in the grass to its final resting place.

Upon arrival, officers found Smith trapped underneath the motorcycle. Smith was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City with incapacitating injuries and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He has since been discharged.

The police report states the roadway surface was wet, and alcohol appeared to have been involved, but no tests were given due to the extent of injuries; however hospital records will be obtained to determine whether charges will be filed.
