County Biggest Loser Challenge to begin 04/08/09 Email this story to a friend The obesity rate for the state of Kentucky is 27.5% according to Bernita Cheirs, Fulton County Extension Agent. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that the 22% of Americans do not engage in any physical activity, and in Kentucky that percentage is greater than 30%, she said, adding Kentucky obesity rate ranks seventh in the nation. The Fulton County Cooperative Extension Service wants to help community members get fit, with a 10-week Fulton County Biggest Loser Challenge, to provide information and support to anyone who wants to lose weight and/or achieve a healthier lifestyle. Each team can consist of one to five members, and the cost is $8 per person. Each team will choose a captain to attend the informational meeting April 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Citizens Bank Community Room in Hickman. If several teams from Fulton register, there will be an informational meeting there as well. Call the extension office at 236-2351 to register. The name of the team, the name and phone number of the captain and the number of members on each team will be needed to register. The registration fee will be due at the meeting on April 13 and the captain will receive packets for each member of their team. Everyone will be required to attend the first weigh-in on April 20 and the final weigh-in on June 22 at 5:30 at the Citizens Bank Community Room in Hickman. Each Monday in between those dates, either weigh in at the Extension Office from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. or call in weight by 5:30 p.m. that day. The weekly team Biggest Losers will be posted in the lobby of Citizens Bank, both locations and on the Extension Office’s website on each Tuesday morning.
