Clarinetist Matthew Griffith of Sheboygan, Wis., and bassoonist Catherine Chen of Greenwich, Conn. were named the co-winners of the Marine Band's 2010 Concerto Competition, following the final recital of the seven finalists on Saturday, February 20th.

Immediately following the announcement, Lieutenant General G. R. (Ron)Christmas, USMC (Ret.), president and CEO of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, presented each winner with a check for $2,500. Griffith and Chen will return this spring to perform their solos in concert with the Marine Band during the German Masterworks concert on April 18 at Northern Virginia Community College's Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria.
