Program Overview Home Team Parent Aide Program - Richard Pankl & friends Children’s Home Society Regional Director and Exchange Club member Richard Pankl presented Walla Walla’s new Home Team parent-mentoring program. This program, administered by the Children’s Home Society in partnership with Exchange Club of Walla Walla, was developed from a national concept that been established in more than 100 communities throughout the United States. Home Team utilizes trained volunteers to help parents struggling with child abuse issues. Home Team mentors will develop one-on-one relationships with parents. Currently more than 30 families in our community require social worker intervention for child abuse and neglect. Pankl said program mentors will help breakdown some of the isolation many struggling parents live with. He said they will establish clearly stated goals for improvement and measure their success. Volunteers from our community who want to make a difference in the lives of children and families will be trained as Home Team mentors. Pankl encouraged Exchange Club members to volunteer. Volunteers will receive 12 hours of training and be expected to meet one or two hours per week in the family’s home. Monthly training opportunities for continued support and education will also be provided. Currently six volunteers have committed their services to the program. Please contact Volunteer Coordinator Gretchen Hormel-Tomkins at 529-2130 for more information on becoming a volunteer. Walla Walla Exchange Club Foundation approved $18,000 from the May 2002 Ducky Derby and $27,000 from the May 2003 Ducky Derby proceeds to help launch the program. Additional funding requests of Exchange Club will be determined at a later date.
