Program Review Getting to know our local birds - Shirley Muse Touted as the single fastest growing hobby in North America, longtime bird activist Shirley Muse tempted Exchange Club members to become bird watchers with her captivating presentation. Several hands in the audience went up when Shirley asked members if they currently watch birds or have feeders on their property. As a representative of the local Audubon Society Chapter, which has been active in Walla Walla for 30 years, Shirley said there are 200 bird species in Walla Walla County. She said the Walla Walla River Delta is a great place to visit for bird watching. Shirley said the Audubon Society is very active in civic and educational affairs and serves to enhance, educate the public about, and protect birds in their habitat. She showed a short slide show to test Exchange Club members’ bird identification skills. She said the bulk of bird watchers are 16 to 30 years of age and there is a 60/40 split with women over men.
