Program Review State Representative 16th District Candidates Forum What was originally scheduled to be a forum for State Representative 16th Legislative District candidates Dave Mastin (R) and Jody Clark (D) to discuss issues relating to the November 5 general election, turned in to a speaking opportunity for Mastin as Clark failed to show. Mastin is seeking reelection for a sixth term. Mastin said if he elected he will face his most difficult term as the state faces a $2 billion budget deficit. He said tough decisions will have to be made and he anticipates significant cuts to balance the budget. He said he supports Referendum Bill 51, the transportation bill which finances transportation improvements through a 9 cent gas tax increase, increased sales tax on vehicles, and weight fees on trucks and large vehicles. Mastin said he represents a strong voice for Southeast Washington. Mastin serves on the Appropriations (budget) Committee, the Joint Executive/Legislative Water Policy Group, and in House leadership as the Republican Deputy leader.

The General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
