Program Review Community College Wine Program - Stan Clarke, Instructor As the Walla Walla valley wine industry continues to grow, so does the need for qualified employees to produce and market its products, according to a report from Stan Clarke, Walla Walla Community College’s new instructor of the Walla Walla Institute for Enology and Viticulture. Walla Walla Community College is taking a bold step in filling that need by establishing this new program designed to teach students all aspects of the wine industry. Clarke said the program will produce highly skilled employees. Currently 30 students are enrolled in the two-year program, 15 of whom are not from Walla Walla. He said industry growth potential is attracting students from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Students will tend to grapes at school’s new 1.5 acre vineyard, located near the Walla Walla Regional Airport, and learn to make wine. Clarke says many students will transfer to four-year college programs upon completing their Associates of Arts degree in Walla Walla. The program facility ground breaking ceremony is Friday, Oct. 11 at WWCC at 3:30 p.m.
