Program Review Young People’s Library - Creating a new generation of readers “We love books and children, and we especially love children with books,” said coordinators of the City of Walla Walla Young People’s Library Marianne Gilpatrick and Liz George. Gilpatrick, who heads the library, said their mission is to serve children ages birth to 18. From offering colorful, activities filled programs at the library to taking books on the road to various valley schools, the mission is clear: repeat the importance of literacy. George said one of the goals this year is to get all 2nd grade students in Walla Walla to take a field trip to the library. “We’re making this a positive place where young people want to be,” George said. Special programs such as Rock N’ Roll cafe, Ticket to Read, Field Trip Fridays have been successful as more than 6,000 people were served last year.
