Program Review “Video Production Opportunities” Jeffrey Townsend
Jeffrey Townsend, Director of Video Services for Coffey Communications, used his 20 years of experience in the film and video industry to demonstrate some of the marketing and training possibilities now available through desktop video production. Townsend and his wife and two children moved to Walla Walla five years ago after living in New York and Los Angeles. Townsend’s wife was a longtime Walla Walla resident, but it was Jeffrey that insisted they return to the valley. During his well traveled career, Townsend has served as production designer, second unit director, free lance writer and television producer.
He stressed during his presentation that video production has become more mainstream thanks to the development of advanced computer software in the mid-80s. Townsend showed club members some of the local spots he and his video team have created in Walla Walla, including the public service announcement produced for the Ducky Derby.
Townsend explained that inexpensive video production equipment is allowing more people to make videos. He said an unfortunate side of this is poor quality production. He highly recommends people research who is bidding for their production work before making business contract commitments. He said he hopes film and video schools continue to stress the basics of film production, including teaching film as a language.
