Program
Earl Roberge and the Snake River Dams
Photographer and author Earl Roberge talked to us about his book, "Those Snake River Dams.' He gave a brief account of the wild nature of the Snake River before being “calmed” by the Dams. He spoke about the great Missoula Floods that carved the gorge and shaped much of the landscape of Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington. He focused on how the Dams provide cheap electrical power and low cost (barge) transportation. Though he doesn’t believe the dams will ever eliminate salmon runs up the Snake River, he expressed his view that they economic cost of breeching the dams could never out way the benefit of saving salmon. He offered lots of good information and interesting anecdotes and highly recommends buying the book to get the whole story.
