Program
Dr. Karl Eckhardt came and shared a new informational video about the Friends program with Exchange. Dr. Eckhardt helped found the Friends program with a group of individuals interested in helping youth in our community who are in need of an adult friend-not a counselor, parent or other kind of authority figure, but simply a friend. We have about 2,500 kids in the community who are not currently living with either parent. They need someone to talk to and relate to who can provide some support in their lives. The video gave examples of kids who have benefitted from the program, as well as stories from the adult Friends who have volunteered their time, and benefitted from that interaction as well. At this point, the structure of the Friends program is up and going, and what is now needed are people to spread the word and help facilitate more adult Friends to sign on. Community awareness needs to be built up, and so the concept of a information video was conceived. Donation of video production was made by a Friends board member, Tim Copeland, of Prosperity Productions.

The screening and selection of adult Friends is stringent; it has to be to protect the children in the program. There's training and education for volunteers on risk management and the ethics of working with someone else's child. And there's ongoing support for volunteers in the program. If you're interested in supporting Friends, either through your time or financially, please call Teri Barilla, coordinator of the Friends program, at 527-4745.

Trivia Question
Trivia: Paul Meier, State Farm Insurance, and table guessed that jelly beans are the most-purchased Easter candy other than chocolate. They were incorrect: Peeps (a marshmallow-y candy shaped like chicks) are the highest-selling non-chocolate Easter candy. For those of you who didn't even know Peeps existed (imagine that!), check out www.marshmallowpeeps.com --it's a phenomenon!
