DATELINE - POPLAR BLUFF - Dexter High School’s Lady Bearcat tennis team dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 6-3 loss to the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules on the road Thursday. “It was another close match we lost,” Dexter coach Vicky Jarrell said. “We didn’t play bad, we just didn’t win. They (Poplar Bluff) have four seniors in the top four spots.” Dexter senior Megan Leist notched two of the three wins for the Lady Bearcats. Leist teamed with Briana Lacy in doubles to post an 8-3 win over Kourtney Lance and Shelly Billington and defeated Jamie Grey in singles winning a tie breaker 8-8 (7-5). Dexter’s other win came as junior Britney Bagby defeated Kelly Barks, 8-3. “We’re going to get better,” Jarrell said. “The girls are giving a good effort and they don’t like losing. Hopefully these types of losses will help our younger players learn what it takes to win a tennis match.” In junior varsity action, Dexter lost all five doubles matches, but won seven of 10 singles contests.
