The remnants of Hurricane Jeanne spun an apparent tornado near Ridgeway in Fairfield County Monday night killing an elderly man.

Julius Durham, who was believed to be in his late 70's, died at a hospital in Columbia early Tuesday morning. About a dozen people were taken to the hospital with injuries as the storm destroyed five homes and damaged three others.

On Monday morning, five people were taken to Clarendon Memorial Hospital after a tornado set down in Alcolu. Three mobile homes were destroyed and five were damaged.

Early Tuesday morning, a man had to be rescued from his car near Pageland in Chesterfield County when flash flooding poured over roads.
