You may be getting a refund from the power company. South Carolina Electric and Gas is refunding about $1.5 million to 7000 customers in a settlement of a state lawsuit.
The unfair trade practices lawsuit was filed by South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster on behalf of SCE&G customers who were charged monthly municipal franchise fees even though they live outside city limits.
Municipal franchise fees are paid to cities and towns for use of rights of way for poles, lines and other equipment.
To date, SCE&G has issued over 4000 customer refunds at an average of $116.04 per customer.
