You've probably seen all the remodeling going on at the corner of Gervais and Huger in downtown Columbia. The historic building where the Confederacy once printed money, is now a new Publix Super Market.
For folks who live in downtown Columbia, it no longer means a trip to the suburbs to get groceries. For suburbanites who work downtown, it's a stop off for a few items on the way home.
In addition to the traditional food departments, the new Publix has a full-service bakery, deli, floral and seafood departments. A special fax line allows customers to fax in deli orders.
The store employs about 100 people.
