Obey God rather than men? That's the question some government officials are asking themselves since a three- judge federal appeals court told the Great Falls Town Council to stop praying in Jesus' name. The court ruled that specifically Christian prayers violate the constitution.
Charleston County Councilman Tim Scott says the ruling is part of a continued attack on Christianity, and hopes his council will fight back by including Jesus in its prayers.
Berkeley County Councilman Calwell Pinckney says, "Budda didn't die for me. Allah didn't die for me. My religion says Jesus did." He adds that nobody can dictate to him how to pray.
The Great Falls Town Council is planning an appeal to the full Court of Appeals. Great Falls is in Chester County, about 40 miles north of Columbia.
