| | Great Falls Will Fight To Pray In Jesus' Name | | 07/30/04 Email this story to a friend The Great Falls Town Council will fight a court ruling that bars the council from using the name of Jesus Christ in prayers before meetings. The vote to continue the court appeals was unanimous. H.C. Starnes, the mayor of the Chester County town says most of the people who live there would want the decision challenged. But legal experts say it's a long shot.
This all started when Darla Kaye Wynne, who practices the Wicca religion, sued the town council in 2001 for using Jesus' name in prayer during meetings. She also claims council members used the prayers to draw attention to her religious beliefs and ostracize her.
Great Falls is about 40 miles north of Columbia in southeastern Chester County, near the Fairfield and Lancaster County lines. | | |
