LEOPOLD The Class 1 District 2 baseball tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday morning at Leopold with the No. 1 seed Oran Eagles looking to add another district title to their accomplishments.
Oran, now 18-4 on the season, will face No. 8 Richland in the opening round at 10 a.m.
The Eagles are seeking their 16th district title and have won five of the last six district championships. They have made eight trips to the final four, earning three second place finishes and five fourth place finishes.
Last season, Oran won the district crown but lost to Ste. Genevieve Valle in the Class 1 Quarterfnal.
Following the Oran game will be No. 4 Leopold vs No. 5 Scott County Central at 12 p.m. The Braves were 6-12 going into Fridays season finale with Risco.
Bernie was given the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will go up against No. 7 Delta at 2 p.m., and No. 3 Bell City will battle No. 6 Advance in the final game of the day at 4 p.m.
Were picked to win the district so we definitely feel like were capable of winning it, said Oran head coach Mitch Wood. I told the kids that its a whole new season. What youve done up until now doesnt mean a whole lot. Its what you do from here on out.
Weve had good post-seasons in the past and hopefully this bunch will continue that and keep doing some things, he added. Our pitching and defense has been so-so in the last few games. Hopefully itll come back around like it was mid-season and well be okay.
The winner of the 1 vs 8 game will face the winner of the 4 vs 5 game on Tuesday at 2 p.m., while the winner of the 2 vs 7 game and the winner of the 3 vs 6 game will follow at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
The championship game is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Leopold.
