BENTON - Three Southeast Missouri residents are in custody, facing various drug charges, after the Sheriffs Emergency Response Team served a search warrant at 307 Hardin in Sikeston Tuesday.
In custody at the Scott County Jail are John W. Hitt, 32, of Sikeston, on a warrant for distributing controlled substances near schools with bond set at $150,000; Herbert F. Moore, 47, of Sikeston, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine and demerol) with bond set at $50,000; and Melissa D. Dover, 32, of Morehouse, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) with bond set at $25,000.
The search warrant, served at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, also resulted in the seizure of a quantity of guns and drug paraphernalia. According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, additional charges may be forthcoming.
Departments contributing to the operation, in addition to the Scott County Sheriffs Department, included Scott City Police Department and the SEMO Drug Task Force.
Walter said, 2005 was a very successful year in the fight against drugs in Scott County. He has committed his department, in this second year of his tenure as sheriff, to continue to battle against illegal drugs.
