SIKESTON — City council positions in Sikeston and Charleston will be decided April 4.

Filing closed Tuesday in both municipalities with the number of candidates below that which would have required a primary election Feb. 7.

In Sikeston, incumbent Mike Marshall will face a single opponent, Wayne Morgan, in his race for a second three-year term as mayor.

Incumbents Jim Terrell in Ward 2 and David Teachout in Ward 3 will have no opposition on the April ballot for new terms on the City Council.

In Charleston, incumbents James D. Conn and Michael Jones will be joined on the ballot for the two Charleston City Council seats by challengers Jerry Rosson Sr. and Willie C. Carpenter Sr., according to City Clerk Marsha Hart.

Filing for other municipalities in the area, along with school boards, opens Dec. 13 and closes Jan. 17.
