Berry College pitcher Matt McCalley had a hand in both wins for the Vikings as they swept a key doubleheader from Auburn-Montgomery on Saturday.
After losing 13-3 to AUM on Friday, No. 12 Berry came out and won a pair of gutsy games on Saturday.
McCalley (6-0) picked up the save in Berrys 3-2 win in the first game and recorded the win in the Vikings 7-4 victory in the nightcap, which lasted 10 innings.
Freshman Trent Hillis (5-0) picked up the win for Berry (27-8, 13-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference) in the opener.
Berry did not allow AUM to score a single run after the first inning of the first game and McCalley (5) earned the save over the final two innings.
Both teams traded two-run first innings, but the Vikings were able to get the winning run across in the third when Patrick Taylor doubled to right field to drive in Jarrett Northcutt with the winning run.
Northcutt scored twice and finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate. He was the only Berry player with multiple hits in the game as the Vikings finished with just five hits.
Berry started the game with two runs in the first inning. Harman Watkins hit a leadoff single. Following a stolen base, Watkins came in to score on an RBI-single by Northcutt. The Vikings sophomore second baseman came around to score a passed ball later in the inning to put Berry in front 2-0 to start the game.
Despite giving up three hits in the first inning, Hillis surrendered just five hits in the game. Hillis struck out three batters and walked just two as he worked into the sixth inning before turning the ball over to McCalley.
In game two, Eric Weiss went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored the game-winning run as the Vikings had a come-from-behind win over the Senators in the night cap.
The Berry right fielder finished the day 5-for-5 against AUM on the day.
McCalley picked up the win in relief for Berry. He had a pair of strikeouts and allowed just one hit over the final three innings of the game to earn his sixth win.
Despite giving up the four-run fourth inning, starter Chris Rearick threw well for Berry. He gave the Vikings seven innings of work with four strikeouts and just one walk.
