Doris J. and Loyce W. Bell Sr. of Rome recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary at their residence with their children. The two were married on March 28, 1938, in Livingston with Shelia Williams presiding. The couple first met on a blind date several years after their graduation. Mrs. Bell was the former Doris Elizabeth Johnson. She has lived in Rome for 90 years. Mr. Bell has been in Rome for almost 76 years. Mr. and Mrs. Bell attended Rome High Schools. Mrs. Bell was a homemaker and Mr. Bell was in the wholesale car business for many years. He later went into the tool and fastener business and owned L.W. Bell and Sons Tools and Fasteners on Decatur Street in Rome until he retired in 1980. At that time Mr. and Mrs. Bell traveled for many years, enjoyed flea markets and family gatherings. They have four children, Shirley Bell Allred, Peggy Bell Hanson, Loyce Wesley Bell Jr. and Bobby Joe Bell. They have seven grandchildren, l0 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Especially happy times during their marriage were the births of their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild, vacationing with all their grandchildren in Florida, family gatherings and PePe their Pomaranian. They say the secret to a successful marriage is to do things together.
