Dr. and Mrs. Marlin Dwayne Collier of Rome announce the engagement of their daughter Laura Katherine Collier of Atlanta to Gary Mark Darnell of Macon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Edward Darnell of Andalusia, Ala. Miss Collier is a 1997 graduate of Darlington School and a 2001 graduate of Western Carolina University with Bachelor of Science degrees in hospitality management and special education. She plans to graduate in May 2009 from Western Carolina University with a Master of Science degree in special education. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the women’s tennis team. She is employed as a special education pre-school teacher at Fair Oaks Elementary School in Atlanta. The bride-elect is the sister of Stephen Gray Collier and Ellen Louise Collier, both of Athens. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Gray Cunningham and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leban Harris Collier. Darnell is a 1996 graduate of Andalusia High School in Andalusia, a 2000 graduate of Mercer University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and a 2002 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. While at Mercer, he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Engineer Honor Society. He is employed as a mechanical engineer with Mercer Engineering Research Center in Warner Robins. The groom-elect is the brother of Brett Wade Darnell of Andalusia. He is the grandson of Mrs. Charles Quentin Hoskins of Van Buren, Mo., the late Charles Quentin Hoskins and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Darnell. The wedding ceremony is planned for Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church of Atlanta. A reception will be held at The Vinings Club.
