GENE AND GLENDA NORRIS |
Gene and Glenda Norris of Rome recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. The two were married on March 26, 1954, in Buchanan. The couple first met on a blind date. Mrs. Norris is the former Glenda Beard and has been a resident of Floyd County all of her life. She attended Armuchee High school where she played on the varsity basketball team. She worked for Floyd County Lanes and Trend Mills before retiring to become a full-time grandmother. Mr. Norris was born in Winston County, Ala. His family moved to Rome in 1943. He graduated from McHenry High School in 1949 and served four years in the U.S. Navy. In the late fifties he worked for General Electric and later worked 34 years at Georgia Kraft and Inland Rome, retiring in 1994. They have five children, Marsha N. Wilson, John E. Norris, Cathy N. Cauthen, Toni L. Norris and Sherry Russell-Smith, all of Rome. They have six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. The couple enjoys camping, bowling, Southern gospel music, motorcycling and picnics around the family swimming pool. The Norrises are members of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. Close family ties, fun-filled family activities, and lots of love and laughter have bound the couple together for 55 years and many more years are expected.
