Lavender View Garden Club members met at the Anthony Recreation Center in Garden Lakes for their March meeting and a club flower show. Alice Andrews and Ann Bradfield served as co-hostesses. Special guests were flower show judges Melanie Caldwell, Mary Louise Dixon and Vivian Toles. Maria De Armoun, director of the Anthony Center, was also welcomed as a guest. Ann Bradfield, program chairman, said that the theme for the years programs is Conservation, Preservation and Innovation. Horticulture chairman Doris Schultz gave a tip on growing roses. She stated that banana peels placed in the soil with roses would keep bugs away and make blooms bigger. It was noted that the Rome Federated Garden Clubs will meet May 4 and Day in May will be May 5. The Day in May celebration is a time when the Rome Garden Clubs extend hospitality to all those who have helped the clubs in various ways during the last two years. Following the business session members were given critiques by the judges of the designs done for the club flower show entitled Spring is Busting Out All Over. Class 1: Blue - Marion Richards, Red - Shirley Muller, Yellow - Ann Bradfield. Class 2: Blue - Doris Schultz, Red - Peggy Eason, Yellow - Adine Shepherd. Class 3: Blue-Suzanne Field, Red - Ann Harris, Yellow - Alice Andrews. Best in Design: Suzanne Field. Winners in Horticulture: Ann Bradfield: three blue and one red. Peggy Eason: two blue and one red. Suzanne Field: one blue, one red and one yellow. Ann Harris: two blue and four reds. Shirley Muller: two blue. Marion Richards: three blue and one red. Best in Horticulture: Ann Harris.
