An ambulance transferring a wreck victim to Floyd Medical Center was struck by a van, resulting in six people being transported to hospitals Tuesday afternoon.

According to Mike Simmons of the Rome Police Department:

The ambulance was headed toward the hospital and was driving through the intersetion of Martha Berry Boulevard and Turner McCall with its siren and lights on when a green van, driven by Dellie Ruth Jones Brewster of Cedar Bluff, Ala., crashed into it.

Simmons said the driver and front-seat passengers in the van had “visible injuries,” and a third passenger in the back was taken in for evaluation.

A total of six people were taken to the hospital for moderate to minor injuries, said Simmons.

The driver and EMT in the ambulance were transported to Redmond Regional Medical Center, while the original wreck victim, as well as three people from the van, were taken to FMC.

Brewster will be cited for failure to yield right of way, police said.
