The Rome police are investigating today an overnight house fire on South McLin Street in a vacant home, reports stated.
According to Rome police reports:
The South Rome single story vacant home at 310 S. McLin St. was reported to 911 around 1 a.m., and fire officials were unable to save the home before it was destroyed by the flames. They were able to save another vacant home next door, which was moderately damaged when the flames spread next door.
Rome police questioned neighbors in the area and a wit-ness reported to police a suspect was living at the home and a few days before had his dog taken by animal control.
Investigators from the Rome Fire Department reported the fire was "intentionally started," and they believe it was started on the front porch.
Police had no suspects in custody this morning but are continuing their investigation.
