The Terry Reid Mitsubishi and Mount Berry Kia dealerships on Martha Berry Highway will close Wednesday and merge into Reid’s Kia dealership in Cartersville.
Reid said he would build a new Kia dealership in Floyd County in 18 months, perhaps longer, depending on an economic recovery.
Reid said he needed a new facility in Rome anyway, but now is not a good time economically.
He is buying the assets of some partners in Mount Berry Kia dealership and said his future dealerships will be under the Terry Reid name only.
“It’s a business decision based on market conditions,” Reid said. “ We’ve been very successful with Kia in this marketplace, but you can cut to the point you’re no longer serving the customer at the level you want to.
“It’s a consolidation to help us through this recession.”
Reid said he is talking to real estate agents about locations for the Floyd County dealership, but in addition to waiting out the economy he is watching road development in the county.
“The recession is one issue, the other one is to be able to get the right location.”
