North Carolinas 35-point romp over a ranked team kept the Tar Heels a unanimous No. 1 choice in The Associated Press college basketball poll Monday. Ohio State joined the Top 25 following a pair of five-point victories over ranked teams.
The Tar Heels (8-0) dismantled Michigan State 98-63 at Ford Field last week as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and again received all 72 first-place votes from the national media panel.
Connecticut and Pittsburgh held the second and third spots, while Gonzaga and Oklahoma both moved up one place to fourth and fifth. Texas, Duke, Tennessee, Louisville and Xavier rounded out the top 10.
Ohio State (5-0) moved in at No. 21, the Buckeyes first ranking since being No. 1 in the final poll of 2006-07.
Defending national champion Kansas (7-1) moved back into the poll at No. 25.
Miami (5-2) and Florida dropped out of the rankings.
Wake Forest was 11th and was followed by Notre Dame, Syracuse, Purdue, Villanova, UCLA, Memphis, Michigan State, Georgetown and Arizona State.
The last five ranked teams were Ohio State, Baylor, Davidson, Marquette and Kansas.
TCU beats another No. 3, moves up to No. 19
TCU is making a habit of knocking off highly ranked opponents and shaking up the Top 25.
For the second time this season, the Horned Frogs beat a No. 3 team in The Associated Press poll when they surprised California 82-73 on Sunday. TCU moved up to No. 19 in this weeks poll.
Meanwhile, Connecticut remained a unanimous choice as the top team Monday. The Huskies received all 45 first-place votes for the second straight week after routing Holy Cross. North Carolina stayed at No. 2.
With Cals loss, Stanford moved up to No. 3, followed by Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
Texas jumped three spots to No. 6 after beating Mississippi. The Longhorns play No. 7 Tennessee on Sunday.
Notre Dame stayed unbeaten after topping Purdue on Sunday, and climbed to No. 8. Cal fell to ninth and Baylor remained in 10th.
Duke, Louisville, Auburn, and Rutgers each moved up a place while Maryland fell seven spots to 15th after its loss to Pittsburgh, which moved up eight places to No. 16.
Virginia moved up three places to 17th. Ohio State remained 18th, followed by TCU at No. 19 its highest ranking since March 8, 2004. Vanderbilt fell four places to No. 20 after losing to UC Riverside.
Purdue, Arizona State, Florida, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State rounded out the Top 25. The Gators entered the poll for the first time since Feb. 27, 2006.
