The Technical College System of Georgias board met today and decided to move forward with plans to merge 13 of Georgias technical colleges.
The board voted unanimously to go ahead with the merger, said Coosa Valley Technical College President Craig McDaniel. It gives an opportunity for colleges to get back on the same page.
CVTC and Northwestern Technical College in Rock Spring will combine to become one of six new colleges formed.
Were going to move forward and combine two colleges to make a better college, said McDaniel.
The board met because one of the colleges involved in the merger, Swainsboro Technical College, requested to be left out, but TCSG decided all colleges would continue in the plan that should save approximately $3.5 million for the system.
The administrative mergers mean more efficient use of college resources, greater cost-effectiveness in how we administer the campuses, and improved opportunities for our first priority, which is always our students, said TCSG Board Chairman Carl Swearingen.
