Oct. 7 was the last day of the grace period for candidates in the Nov. 4 general election to file their campaign financial reports for July 1 through Sept. 30.
The reports detail spending, donations and debt for the filing period.
The most notable difference in campaign coffers is in the race for State House District 13.
Katie Dempsey, the Republican incumbent District 13 representative, filed a report Oct. 7 stating she had $26,119.40 on hand. She has raised $29,751 for the most recent filing period and has raised $220,692 to date.Click here to view Katie Dempsey's report
Her total campaign amount raised is more than five times more than her opponent's. While the total is significantly more than her Democrat challenger, it's not unusual for an incumbent vying for a state seat. At this point in the 2006 election, Sen. Preston Smith had raised more $251,000.
Bob Puckett, the Democrat candidate in the State House District 13 race, filed a report Oct. 7 stating he had $31,845.13 on hand. He raised $18,367 for the most recent period and $43,473 to date. click here to view Bob Puckett's report
Both candidates are getting a strong influx of money from outside of Floyd County, perhaps attesting to the importance of this seat to the two parties.
For Sept. 30 filing period, 87 percent of the money raised for the Dempsey campaign has been from contributors outside Floyd County while 60 percent of Puckett's have been from outside the county.
