Take the last train to Clarksville and Ill meet you at the station. You can be there by four thirty cause Ive made your reservation, dont be slow. Oh no no no. The Monkees were a pop-rock quartet created in Los Angeles in 1965 for a television series by the same name. In no time, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork were on television screens and concert stages throughout the world.
The group was immensely popular with their fans, particularly teenage girls. And long after the band dissolved, their catchy hits live on.
Hits made popular by the Monkees include Last Train To Clarksville, Daydream Believer and Im a Believer. One of the original members, frontman Davy Jones, comes to Cedartown this month, and concert organizers are giving away two VIP tickets as well as other valuable memorabilia.
Jones will be performing on Sept. 27 at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center for the season opener Davy Jones Monkee Memories. Two lucky area residents will get VIP tickets to see Jones during that performance.
Weve had so many people approach us with their own Monkees stories and memories that we decided this might be a good way to get the community involved, said Michelle Ronco with the Cedartown Performing Arts Center.
Area residents are encouraged to send in their favorite stories or memories of the Monkees and their music. The winner will receive two VIP tickets to the show as well as a signed Davy Jones poster and will have their story printed in the shows program.
All we want is a couple of paragraphs about some memory you have of the music or of that time period, Ronco said. Our board will choose a winner and that will be announced. Entries can be e-mailed to pr@ccauditorium or mailed to CPAC, 205 East Ave., Cedartown, Ga. 30165.
The deadline is noon on Sept. 12
