Amanda Brooke Rainey and Jeffrey Steven Sweitzer were married at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the Lee Council House in Americus.

The bride is the daughter of Mark and Jeanean Rainey of Cordele. She is the granddaughter of Howard and Mildred Rainey and James and Newahna Gardner, all of Cordele.

The groom is the son of David and Jackie Sweitzer of Rome. He is the grandson of Jack and Bessie Ott and Bill and Marye Sweitzer, all of Rome.

A program of wedding music was provided by harpist Callista Anne Waddy. Selections included “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Morning Has Broken,” “Rachmanioff’s 18th Variation on a Theme,” “Trumpet Voluntary,” “Longer” and “Hornpipe.” The Rev. James Kelly of Cordele performed the double-ring ceremony in the gardens of the Lee Council house which was decorated with a gothic cathedral iron arch adorned with sprays of white gladiola, Vulcan delphinium, snapdragons, roses and assorted Southern greenery.

Heather Turner of Knoxville, Tenn., sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Megan Brock of Arabi, Mallory Grantham of McDonough, Stephanie Reece of Ellijay and Emily Sweitzer, sister-in-law of the groom, of Cabot, Ariz. They wore cornflower blue sleeveless satin V-neck dresses with slim skirts. The bridesmaids carried hand-held clutches similar to the bridal bouquet.

The flower girls were Makenzie Hall of Leesburg and Josey Haskins of Sylvester. They wore sleeveless satin gowns with organza skirts and satin cornflower sashes. They carried baskets of white rose petals and wore halos of baby’s breath.

The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a white strapless organza corset gown with beaded metallic lace on the bodice, skirt and chapel- length train. Her two-tiered elbow-length veil had a beaded scalloped edge and was adorned with a tiara. The bride carried a hand-held bouquet in hues of green and white consisting of roses, lilies, alstromeria and assorted Southern greenery.

The father of the groom was the best man. Groomsmen were Matt Turner of Knoxville, brother-in-law of the bride, Jason Nakai of Atlanta, Donovan Newton of Lilburn and Benjamin Sweitzer, nephew of the groom, who represented the groom’s brother, Major Wesley Sweitzer.

Ushers were Wesley Jacobs and Paul King. Junior ushers were Justin Gardner and Jake Gardner.

Ring bearers were Ty Haskins of Sylvester and Jackson Turner, nephew of the bride, of Knoxville.

The mother of the bride wore a dress of iridescent mocha shantung with a matching jacket. The mother of the groom wore a mint green chiffon sheath with a matching jacket accented with pearls. They carried traditional tussie-mussies of delicate Escimo roses and ming fern. The grandmothers were presented with cymbidium orchid corsages accented by light sheer ribbon and ming fern.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held inside the Lee Council House. Refreshments included the bride’s three-tier white cake with butter cream icing and adorned with snapdragons and lilies. The groom’s chocolate cake was in the shape of a redfish, adorned with a miniature fishing rod.

The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Windsor Hotel in downtown Americus for the bridal party and out-of-town guests.

Other pre-nuptial parties included a miscellaneous shower hosted by family and friends at the Third Street Baptist Church, Cordele; a miscellaneous drop-in shower hosted by family and friends at the home of Mary Rainwater in Cordele; a couples lawn and garden shower hosted by friends and family at the home of Mark and Trisha Gardner in Cordele; a luau party by friends and family at the home of Bill and Marye Sweitzer; a bachelorette party hosted by the bridesmaids at the home of the bride in Kennesaw; a bridesmaids luncheon hosted by the bride at the Sundial Restaurant in Atlanta and a bachelor’s party hosted by Donovan Newton and Jason Nakai in Marietta.

After a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple resides in Kennesaw.
