A six-legged deer found in Rome that captured the interest of the nation is about to become much more normal.
According to veterinarian Dan Pate with West Rome Animal Clinic who cared for the deer after it was attacked by dogs the animal is undergoing surgery today to remove its two inner rear legs.
The deer, nicknamed Spyder, is under the care of an Athens-area wild life rehabilitator.
Pate said the surgery is being performed by Dr. Tim Crowe, a former professor at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.
The deer used a leg from each of its two pelvises to walk, so todays procedure involves taking a leg from each pelvis.
Its not yet known whether the surgery will allow the deer to be released into the wild.
