RINCON, Ga. -- A Georgia-Pacific employee was fatally injured this morning in a work-related accident at the facility off Fort Howard Road.
Georgia-Pacific spokeswoman Carrie Thompson said it occurred in the paper machine operation area at the Savannah River Mill plant.
"An investigation is under way, and we are cooperating with OSHA," Thompson said.
Out of respect for fellow employees and the worker's family, Thompson declined to release any other information about the incident or the identity of the worker.
"Our thoughts are with the family," she said.
Mike Wald, spokesman for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Atlanta, confirmed OSHA investigators were at the scene of this morning's accident.
The fatality is the second work-related death for the plant in less than a year. In November 2007 a female was injured at the plant and later died of her injuries.
Wald said the plant was cited for two serious violations in relation to the November incident, and Georgia-Pacific has contested those violations.
