For the Chattooga Indians, football player Jack McCutchins was an invaluable weapon no matter where he was on the field.
Now, the 5-foot-11 athlete has gotten his chance of proving himself on a college level.
Last week, McCutchins, who graduated in the spring, signed a letter of intent to walk on at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala.
There he will get on the squad this fall and be up for a scholarship in January based on his performance and progress this season.
McCutchins, a two-time Rome News-Tribune All-Area defensive back, also played quarterback and receiver and was in almost every play for Chattooga, including special teams.
In his senior season, McCutchins recorded 34 solo tackles and 22 assists for the Indians while intercepting three passes.
On offense, he rushed for 490 yards and passed for 687 yards. He had 127 yards receiving and was responsible for seven touchdowns.
