Trion softball fans will have to wait a few extra days to get their first look at the new-look Lady Bulldogs.

The Trion squad, which could have as many as six freshmen in the starting lineup, was scheduled to visit LaFayette on Thursday for a scrimmage game.

But the heavy band of thundershowers that moved North Georgia forced the scrimmage to be postponed to Monday afternoon at LaFayette. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Several other scrimmages involving local squads were postponed Thursday, including a match-up between cross-town rivals Model and Armuchee.

Model officials said the game will be made up on Tuesday at Model, but the time has not yet been set.

Also washed out on Thursday was Pepperell’s scrimmage at Cedartown. The preseason game will be made up Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Cedartown.

For most teams, the scrimmages are being used as a final tune-up for next week’s season openers.

A total of 10 local teams — Pepperell, Cedartown, Armuchee, Model, Coosa, Darlington, Rome, Calhoun, Trion and Sonoraville — will begin their seasons by competing in the Model Lady Blue Devil Classic at Alto Park.

The event, which runs Aug. 14-16, will also feature Bartow County teams Woodland and Cartersville.

Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games during the tourney.

Woodland won the event last year, knocking off Rome High in the championship game.
