Barry Norman, founder and executive director of the Rome International Film Festival, has resigned from the position just two months shy of this years event.
Festival audiences will not be affected by Normans resignation, said Harry Musselwhite, the festivals creative/program director. The day-to-day running of the festival is being handled by RIFF staff under Musselwhites direction.
Norman will not be completely absent from the festival, however. His documentary, Roger Miller: Ear Protection Required, will be screened at the event.
The Rome International Film Festival runs Sept. 4 to 7.
Musselwhite said Norman is pursuing a masters degree in film studies in Boston and felt it was time to move on, having founded and directed the festival for five years.
Normans major duties included ticketing and marketing, public relations and serving as liaison with filmmakers.
We will miss Barrys spirit and unbridled enthusiasm for his creation of our festival, Musselwhite said. Barrys independent spirit matches the independent spirit of our festival.
