  • Consumers worried about identity theft have a chance to learn from experts today at a seminar at the Rome Senior Citizens Center.

    The Rome branch of the American Association of University Women is sponsoring the event, which is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Citizens Center, located at 406 Riverside Parkway.

  • The nation’s employers who pay workers the minimum wage will begin shelling out 70 cents more per hour today.

    The new minimum wage is $6.55 an hour, up from $5.85, and is the second step in a three-year plan to raise those totals.

    It is expected to affect under two million workers.

  • In Georgia, a hearing is set for 9 a.m. in Fulton County Superior Court over Southern Center for Human Rights’ lawsuit with the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council about the state’s ailing public defender system.
